BACKGROUND:
In October 2018, the Council approved the award of Bid 18-204 to Core & Main LP for the purchase of large-diameter water meters, for a two-year term through December 31, 2020. The contract included three one-year options to extend and on November 4, 2020, and December 21, 2021 respectively, the Council approved the first and second option year renewals.
DISCUSSION:
Core & Main LP performed well during the first and second contract extensions. During that time, Water Utilities purchased 489 large water meters from this vendor. The meters range in size from 1.5 inches to six inches. All meters were delivered in a timely manner and with no issues. All new, large-diameter water meters will perform directly with the new AMI system. Due to increase material and labor costs, Core & Main LP asked to extend the contract with a 3% increase in cost. The term of the third and final option year is January 1, 2023 through December 31, 2023 with no option year remaining.

Water meter additions and replacements are expensed to the infrastructure account listed below as part of the annual capital improvement program. A total of $1,350,000 is budgeted for new and replacement water meters in 2023. The requested award is within budget.
