BACKGROUND:
The Water Utilities uses Allen-Bradley SLC programmable logic controllers (PLCs) to operate, maintain, and automate the water supply systems. The current PLCs were installed in 1998 and are near the end of their service life, which makes them prone to failure and more expensive to maintain. In 2017, the wastewater collection system replaced all Allen-Bradley SLC PLCs with new Allen-Bradley ControlLogix programmable automation controller (PACs). Bid 21-145 will allow the water supply system to upgrade to the same PAC system used for the wastewater collection system.
In April 2021, the Water Utilities issued Bid 21-145, Water Supply SCADA PLC Upgrades. The contractor will replace the existing Allen-Bradley SLC PLC systems with Allen-Bradley Control Logix and Compact Logix PAC systems at seven water supply stations and elevated storage tanks. The bid also includes installation of backup PLCs for redundancy along with updating all SCADA screens to improve operation and automation of the water supply sites.
