On July 9, 2026, the Liquor Commission unanimously recommended approving the text amendment.
BACKGROUND:
The Class B - Restaurant and Tavern liquor license allows full-service restaurants with a customer bar to sell and serve alcoholic liquor for on-premises consumption, but service must end at 11:00 p.m. each day. Establishments may extend these hours by obtaining a Late Night Permit, which authorizes alcoholic liquor sale and service from 11:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. Monday through Friday and until 2:00 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday, without requiring menu service during those hours. Late Night Permits for downtown locations are currently capped at 22, and all permits are in use. Five Iron Golf, expected to open in April 2027 on the second floor at 47 E. Chicago Ave., is requesting a text amendment to increase the cap from 22 to 23 to obtain a Late Night Permit.
DISCUSSION:
Five Iron Golf is an indoor golf venue featuring simulator bays, high-speed swing cameras, and access to a wide range of virtual courses. The company currently operates 42 locations nationwide. When this location opens, it will include a full-service restaurant with a customer bar. Five Iron Golf is requesting a Late Night Permit that would allow the sale and service of alcoholic liquor until 1:00 a.m., its closing time, on Fridays and Saturdays. If the request is approved, Five Iron Golf will still be required to apply and comply with all other applicable Code requirements.
