BACKGROUND:

The City of Naperville has a commemorative/memorial street name sign program to honor people, organizations, or groups who have achieved noteworthy accomplishments and service to the community. Currently, the City has the following commemorative/memorial streets:

Judd Kendall Memorial Way (Jackson Avenue)

                     Stenger Commemorative Parkway (Franklin Avenue)

Ned Becker Commemorative Parkway (Naper Boulevard)

Nitra and Patzcuaro Commemorative Parkways (Aurora Avenue and Webster Street)

Chief Robert Worthel Memorial Way (School Street)

                     J. Glenn Schneider Memorial Way (Hillside Road)

Ron Keller Commemorative Way (Central Park Road)

Liz Spencer Commemorative Parkway (Ambassador Drive).

DISCUSSION:

The family of Sgt. Robert L. Miller has requested a commemorative street designation in honor of his significant contributions to Naperville (see attached).  Douglas Avenue between Webster Street and Washington Street is recommended to be designated as “Sgt. Robert L. Miller Commemorative Way”.  Douglas Avenue has been selected due to Sgt. Miller’s tenure as a teacher at Washington Junior High School.

FISCAL IMPACT:

Signage costs are estimated at $200
