BACKGROUND:
The other related item on the City Council agenda is:
* 26-0487 - Adopt the IDOT resolution in the amount of $556,201.44 to allow expenditure of State Motor Fuel tax dollars to fund the 2026 Crackfill Program (Item 2 of 2)

In March 2026, the Transportation, Engineering and Development (TED) Business Group issued Bid 26-00, 2026 Pavement Crackfill Program to seek contractors to perform fiberized crack filling on various city streets. Crack filling consists of cleaning and sealing any cracks, voids or joints two inches in width or less with asphalt cement reinforced by polypropylene fibers. It is a cost-effective preventative maintenance technique, and when performed routinely, it can keep water and debris from getting into the pavement.

This work will be paid for using state motor fuel tax (MFT) funds. The expenditure of state MFT funds requires the approval and supervision of the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT). The corporate authorities of the municipality must adopt a resolution appropriating the MFT funds.
