BOARD/COMMISSION REVIEW:
Sharon Martina introduced the Riverwalk Commission to haiku paths at the July 10, 2024, Riverwalk Commission meeting.  The Commission recommended that the concept of adding haiku paths on the Riverwalk be discussed in greater detail at the Planning, Design and Construction (PDC) committee meetings.

BACKGROUND:

Sharon Martina spoke about her vision of having haiku paths on the Riverwalk at the July 10 Riverwalk Commission meeting.  Haiku is three lines of words with a total of seventeen or fewer syllables.  After listening to her presentation, the commission recommended that this idea be discussed in further detail at the August PDC meeting.

DISCUSSION:

Attached is information about haiku from Ms. Martina.  Please review the document and be prepared to discuss possible haiku paths on the Riverwalk.  Things to consider and discuss include but are not limited to:

1.                     Would the haikus be permanent or temporary, switching out at selected periods of time?

2.                     Who would decide which haikus would be on the Riverwalk?

3.                     How are the haikus visibly communicated?

4.                     Will we limit the number of haiku paths, and where will we locate them?

5.                     Can we make any accommodations to our projects under design that will allow us to showcase the haiku better?

Based on the discussion and consensus at the PDC meeting a report will be prepared and send to the Riverwalk Commission for consideration of approval.
