BACKGROUND:

The City Council awarded Contract 23-021 to Dahme Mechanical Industries on June 6, 2023, with an anticipated completion date of May 15, 2024. The purpose of this contract is make improvements to the Northeast Waterworks pressure adjusting station and control room. This includes replacing the existing three pump variable frequency drives (VFDs), piping, flow meters, pressure transmitters and valves. The project also includes painting the existing pressure adjusting station, upgrading the existing Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system and installation of associated conduits and wires.

DISCUSSION:

As a result of an unforeseen delay in the supply chain for the VFD deliveries, the contractor has submitted a request for a time extension of 229 days. Consequently, the revised project completion date will be December 30, 2024. The change order is necessary to provide the contractor with sufficient time to acquire the necessary VFDs, complete the installation and testing and allow for the City’s final acceptance.

FISCAL IMPACT:

CIP #: WU044 - Northeast Water Works Improvements Phase II

The requested change order is for an extension of time only and does not increase the contract’s value. The work can be accommodated within the 2024 budget.
