BACKGROUND:
The implementation of fiber optics holds immense potential for revolutionizing digitization for Naper Settlement, with the inclusion of improvements to the electrical system, communications, and electronic safety and security.

Sitewide fiber optics refers to a network infrastructure setup where fiber optic cables are deployed throughout an entire site or premises. This comprehensive network layout enables the transmission of data, voice, and other communication signals across various locations within the site. Utilizing fiber optic cables offers several advantages over traditional copper wiring, including higher bandwidth capabilities, faster data transmission speeds, and greater reliability over longer distances.

In January 2024, Naper Settlement issued JOC Procurement 19-013.2. A.00-NS, Naper Settlement Sitewide Fiberoptic Improvement to ROBE Construction, Inc.

DISCUSSION:
Naper Settlement Staff has identified an approved JOC Contract 1505 through ROBE Construction, Inc., for the procurement of the Sitewide Fiberoptic Improvement Project.

Naper Settlement is utilizing JOC for this procurement due to the design build nature of the project.

The Sitewide Fiberoptics Improvement CIP will upgrade all necessary cabling, fiber optics equipment, technology, and systems for communication as well as a closed loop system on the 13 acres at Naper Settlement. The upgrades will include adding interconnections while also implementing upgraded networking hardware to support the digitization of the network at Naper Settlement.
