BACKGROUND:
On September 6, 2022, the City Council approved Bid 22-180, Southwest Wastewater Pump Station, to Integral Construction, Inc for an amount not to exceed $1,322,000, plus a 3% contingency.
The work includes replacing the existing three submersible pumps, pump variable frequency drives (VFDs), and piping. The project also includes installing two new mixers, mixer VFDs, upgrading the existing SCADA, and installation of associated conduits and wires.
The original contract completion date was July 1, 2023. On June 20, 2023, the City Council approved Change Order #1 to extend the completion day to October 29, 2023. The reason for this extension is due to unforeseen delays in the supply chain for VFD deliveries.
DISCUSSION:
When staff requested Change Order #1, the VFD delivery date from manufacture was scheduled for the end of June. However, this date had been pushed back by the manufacturer multiple times due to missing parts. All the VFDs were finally received on October 2, 2023. Therefore, the contractor has submitted another request for a time extension of 64 days. Consequently, the revised project completion date will be December 31, 2023. This change order is necessary to provide the contractor with sufficient time to get the necessary VFDs, complete the installation and testing, and allow for the City's final acceptance. This delay will not cause any operation difficulties.
FISCAL IMPACT:
CIP: WW054 - Southwest Wastewater Pump Station
There is no fiscal impact on this contract, the request is for an extension of time. The original project budget of $1,332,000 has sufficient available balance to accommodate the extension.
