BACKGROUND:
Vehicles are scored for replacement based on four criteria: age, usage, condition and repair costs. Recommending a vehicle for replacement requires a score of 28.0 or greater. Unit 331 scored 33.29.
Unit 331 was reviewed and approved by the Fleet Economic Committee and Fleet Services Manager for replacement in the 2023 budget.
Unit 331 is a 2013 International MedTec ambulance used by the Fire Department - Operations Division to provide patient care and transport 24 hours per day for medical emergency calls and special events.
DISCUSSION:
Unit 331 will be replaced with a 2024 Horton ambulance on a Freightliner M2 chassis. The new unit is specified to maintain fleet and operational consistency.
The new ambulance is available on the Suburban Purchasing Cooperative (SPC), an approved cooperative through Foster Coach Sales, Inc., contract #174. Using the City's specifications, Foster Coach Sales, Inc. has quoted the ambulance in the amount of $318,563.
A cost breakdown is provided in the table below:

Due to decreased chassis manufacturing capacities, the vehicle will be delivered in 12 to 18 months. Staff is requesting approval to order the vehicle in 2022 for delivery and payment in 2023 to align with the established replacement schedule and avoid future model year cost increases.
