BACKGROUND:

Under New Business at its October 5, 2021 meeting, the City Council directed staff to update the Municipal Code to replace the use of antiquated language with gender-neutral language in order to better represent gender equality.

DISCUSSION:

Staff used the City’s codifier (MuniCode), which specializes in reviewing and editing municipal codes, to identify antiquated language and recommend replacement language that is gender-neutral. MuniCode prepared the attached report describing the changes it recommends to the City’s Municipal Code along with the attached ordinance which will authorize the recommended changes.

FISCAL IMPACT:

A one-time cost of $5,500 to the City’s codifier to make the recommended changes.
