BACKGROUND:
The G.L.O.W. 5K Run benefits the Jeanine Nicarico Memorial Fund for Literacy and provides grants to schools and teachers in Districts 203 and 204. Once again the race will begin and end just north of the downtown Naperville train station.
DISCUSSION:
The 7th Annual G.L.O.W. 5K Run is scheduled for Saturday, September 25, 2021, beginning at 8:00 p.m. with an anticipated duration of approximately two hours. The event will require No Parking/Tow Zone designations beginning at 4:00 p.m. and temporary street closures beginning at approximately 6:30 p.m. Normal traffic patterns are expected to be established no later than 10:00 p.m. The streets of the race route are opened to vehicular traffic as soon as the Naperville Police Department determines it appropriate based on public safety.
Due to the success of this event, and for the safety of the runners, the Special Events Team has again recommended that runners start in waves to allow the roads to better accommodate the number of participants.
The event organizer will send notification to area residents and businesses on the race route two weeks prior to the race. All other matters including insurance requirements will be satisfied prior to the event.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The G.L.O.W. 5K Run received a $10,000 SECA Grant Fund award. Any City services costs above this amount will be billed to the event organizer.
