ACTION REQUESTED:
title

Discuss membership suggestions and make assignments to the Public Art subcommittees

body

DEPARTMENT:                     City Clerk’s Office

SUBMITTED BY:                     Dawn Portner, Special Events Coordinator

On May 13, 2021 a request was sent to members of the Exploratory Task Force (ETF) to submit membership recommendations for four task force subcommittees.

Specifically, Century Walk was asked to recommend two (2) individuals for each of the four subcommittees. City staff/SECA would also recommend two (2) individuals plus a chairperson.

Below are the subcommittees that the ETF approved and their areas of focus:

Vision
Goal: Develop an overall explanation for the importance of public art in Naperville, including a mission statement, and how public art can both impact and represent us as a city.

Program Administration

Goal: Similar to the Aurora Art Program and the SECA Commission, Naperville’s art program needs to be managed by an independent and diverse group of citizens. This subcommittee shall create a recommendation for an administration body and outline its responsibilities for managing, growing, and cultivating resources, partners, and potential future funding opportunities for public art.

City-initiated art curation
Goal: Build a recurring and consistent public art program cycle and application process to be initiated by the City of Naperville.

Applicant initiated art curation
Goal: Develop a fair and equitable process for members of the community to contact the City with requests to display public art outside of the annual application cycles and without the need for public funding from the City.

Recommendations were due to SECA Chairman Kim or staff no later than 5 p.m. Thursday, May 20.

Subcommittee recommendations will be discussed, and assignments finalized, at the May 26 ETF meeting.
