BACKGROUND:
In March 2020, the Water Utilities issued Bid 21-008, 2021 South Waterworks Improvements Phase II and Northwest Waterworks Pumps 1 and 3 Improvements. The project includes the following two items:

1. South Waterworks Improvements Phase II - improvements to the PAS 15B valve vault.

The PAS 15B valve vault is responsible for distributing Lake Michigan water from the DuPage Water Commission into the City's system. The vault was constructed in 1986 and continues to operate with much of the original equipment, however improvements are needed as the valves, flow meters, and pipes are showing significant signs of deterioration.

Improvements under this contract consists of replacing the existing control valves, butterfly valves, pressure gauges, pressure transmitter, sump pumps, flow meter and associated piping in the PAS 15B valve vault. Work will also include removing the existing control panel, installation of new PLCs and enclosure, replacement of the water supply and drainage pipes for three chlorine analyzers, replacement of all current lights with LED light fixtures and installation of associated electrical wires and new conduits, and PAS 15B vault and Well 16 pipes, valves, walls, floors and ceiling painting.

2. Northwest Waterworks Pumps 1 and 3 Improvements.

Water Utilities installed two new variable frequency drives (VFD) for pumps 1 and 3 this year. The two control valves on each pump were originally installed in 1986.
