BACKGROUND:

In 2019 a group of community members approached the City Council about creating a Sustainability Commission to assess the environmental impacts at the local level and develop recommendations for improvement.  Rather than operating as a board or commission, the group was formed as Naperville Environment and Sustainability Task Force (NEST).

To further assist with the coordination and implementation of sustainable recommendations, a new Sustainability Coordinator was approved as part of the 2021 budget.  This position was posted on March 5, 2021.

DISCUSSION:

Attached is a summary copy of the Sustainable Naperville 2036 report to provide the City Council and community a glimpse of the long-term vision.  The comprehensive report, detailing the next 15 years, contains research and metrics and will be shared as part of the workshop NEST is requesting.

FISCAL IMPACT:

Dependent upon City Council recommendations.
