BOARD/COMMISSION REVIEW:
On November 5, 2020, the Transportation Advisory Board (TAB) recommended approval to establish a No Parking Zone on the north and south side of Cantore Road from Illinois Route 59 to a point 308 feet east of the Forgue Drive edge of pavement (Approved 7-1).

BACKGROUND:
Residents of the Woodlake Subdivision sent a request to the Transportation Team to evaluate a safety concern related to on-street, semi-truck parking on Cantore Road, east of Forgue Drive. The specific concern was that semi-truck parking was limiting sight distance needed for southbound traffic exiting Forgue Drive to view oncoming vehicles.

DISCUSSION:
The Transportation Team evaluated this safety concern and followed the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) guidelines for sight distance. Based on these sight distance standards, the parked trucks can block the line of sight necessary for vehicles to safely exit Forgue Drive given the posted speed limit for Cantore Road under the standard parking regulations.

Staff found that prohibiting parking on both the north and south sides of Cantore Road from IL Route 59 to a distance 165 feet east of the Forgue Drive edge of pavement will provide the appropriate clear line of sight for vehicles exiting Forgue Drive onto Cantore Road. The restriction is recommended on both sides of Cantore Road to prevent a similar sight distance concern on the opposite side of the street. Prohibiting parking between IL Route 59 and Forgue Drive will also prevent potential vehicular conflicts with the turn lanes that develop closer to the IL Route 59 intersection.
