BACKGROUND:

Resolution 19-216 was adopted on March 19, 2019, authorizing the appointment of Lucille Podlesny as the City’s representative to the Board of Directors of the Illinois Municipal Electric Agency (IMEA). With her retirement in December 2020, the appointment of a replacement representative on the Board of Directors of the IMEA is needed.

DISCUSSION:

Brian Groth will be promoted to Director of the Electric Utility upon Lucille Podlesny’s retirement. For the past 18 months, Brian has attended all IMEA meetings with Ms. Podlesny. He is a qualified and knowledgeable candidate to advocate for the citizens of Naperville and the customers of the Electric Utility.

The Board of Directors meets bi-monthly in Springfield. It receives reports from IMEA staff on recent regulatory changes or rulings that could impact power prices and reporting requirements of the agency and its member communities. Additionally, updates are provided on the agency’s assets and programs such as the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Program. Finally, the Board may review and vote on energy contracts to support the reliable supply of electricity.

The Electric Utility works well with IMEA staff and often consults with them, and other member communities, on industry issues.
