BACKGROUND:
In October 2018, Council approved the award of Bid 18-204 to Core & Main LP for the purchase of large diameter water meters, for a two-year term from date of award through December 31, 2020. The larger sized water meters are used in new construction and for replacement of existing meters (when the meter is 20 years or older). The contract includes three one-year options to extend.
DISCUSSION:
Core & Main LP has performed well during this original contract term. Since the contract was awarded, the Water Utilities has purchased 1,833 large water meters from the vendor. These meters range in size from 1.5 inches to six inches. All meters have been delivered in a timely manner and with no issues. All new large diameter water meters will perform directly with the new AMI system.
Core & Main LP has agreed to extend the contract with no increase in cost. The term of the first option year is January 1, 2021 through December 31, 2021, with two option years remaining.

Water meter replacements are expensed to the infrastructure account listed below as part of the Capital Improvement Program. A total of $1,700,000 is proposed for replacement water meters under WU020 in 2021, pending Council approval. An additional $50,000 is budgeted for additional meters for new developments under WU019.
