BACKGROUND:

At the November 5, 2019 City Council meeting, Councilman White requested that the City’s mission statement be revised to reflect the true diversity and inclusive nature of Naperville. Since that time, staff from the City Clerk’s Office and the City Manager’s Office have partnered with Councilman White to draft options for Council’s review and adoption.

 

DISCUSSION:

The following three options are presented for Council review.

 

Current mission statement:

To provide services that ensure a high quality of life for our residents and a dynamic environment for our business community through collaboration, innovation, and sound fiscal management.

 

Revised mission statement options:

1.                     To provide a high quality of life and a dynamic business environment through innovation, diversity, inclusion, and sound fiscal management.

 

2.                     To provide services that ensure a high quality of life and dynamic business environment while creating an inclusive community that values diversity.

 

3.                     To foster an inclusive community that values diversity and promotes a high quality of life and dynamic business environment through innovation and sound fiscal management.
