BACKGROUND:
On July 26, 2017, Douglas Walgren, individually and as independent administrator of the estate of Corey Walgren, deceased, and Maureen Walgren filed a lawsuit in the Northern District of Illinois against the City and one of its employees and District 203 and two of its employees alleging federal and state law claims stemming from the death of decedent Corey Walgren.
DISCUSSION:
After the Walgrens’ claims were dismissed with prejudice by the U.S. District Court and the Walgrens appealed, the City and District 203 reached a settlement with the Walgrens subject to City Council approval. The attached resolution approves the settlement agreement.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The City will make a one-time payment to Walgrens and their attorneys for $125,000.00.
