BACKGROUND:
On February 18, 2018, City Council awarded Bid 18-180, Water and Wastewater Hatch Replacement to Keno & Sons Construction Company for an amount not to exceed $313,000 plus a 5% contingency. The work is to replace six existing covers and access hatches at the Springbrook Water Reclamation Center, with additional hatch replacements at West Southwest Waterworks and Northwest Waterworks sites.

Hatches at Springbrook will be used by staff to gain access to the six (6) aerobic digesters for routine maintenance. The six replacement covers and hatches consist of structural stainless-steel support beams and aluminum covers and will be fitted for adequate sizing to safely access each covered aerobic digester tank for maintenance and handling of equipment.

DISCUSSION:
Due to unforeseen field conditions, additional structural steel and field modifications are required to complete the hatch installations as specified. This work involves a change in the method to fasten the structural beams to the existing roof decking of the digesters.

The change order also includes a revised completion date of November 15, 2019. The change was necessary to allow for a structural evaluation and design, fabrication time to provide necessary materials and time to modify and install the additional structural steel.
