BACKGROUND:
Unit 322 qualified for replacement in 2019. However, the purchase was deferred for replacement until 2020 by the
Fire Department during the 2019 budget process. A vehicle must receive a score of 28.0 or greater to be recommended for replacement; Unit 322 exceeds the minimum score as shown in the table below:

DISCUSSION:
Unit 322 is a 2006 Pierce Dash quint used by the
Fire Department in emergency situations to transport
firefighter paramedics to the scene of a
fire, rescue operation, vehicular accident and other emergencies. Once on the scene, the ladder trucks are used as multipurposed specialty vehicles. The ladder trucks have the capability of reaching elevated surfaces on every structure within the City, are equipped with extrication equipment and can deploy a hose and carry a limited amount of water to facilitate a
fire attack when necessary.
The typical lifespan of a ladder truck is 19 years depending upon usage and condition. Although the unit has not reached the end of its useful life in years, the extensive high hour usage and increased repair costs warrant the replacement of the unit. The timeline for the manufacture and delivery of a ladder truck is typically ten to twelve months.
