BOARD/COMMISSION REVIEW:
Not required.

BACKGROUND:

The petitioner, Robby Whitehead of Olympik Signs, has submitted an application on behalf Trails & Tides, to permit a blade sign to encroach in the public right-of-way at the subject property located at 120 S. Water Street #100, Naperville. Trails & Tides, a clothing store, was previously known as Southern Tide.

DISCUSSION:

The petitioner is proposing to install a 7.5 square foot blade sign that will extend approximately 3’ from the façade over the public right-of-way (sidewalk). There will be a 10’4” clearance from the bottom of the sign to the sidewalk, which exceeds the minimum height clearance necessary for the City’s downtown snow removal equipment. Staff has conducted a review of the sign and finds it meets all sign code requirements. Staff is in support of the proposal.

If Council is to approve the encroachment ordinance, staff will release the sign permit, allowing the blade sign to be installed, under the condition that the applicant return a signed right-of-way encroachment agreement to the City within 60 days of the sign permit issuance.
