BOARD/COMMISSION REVIEW:
Not required.

BACKGROUND:

The applicant, Grate Sign Company, has submitted an application on behalf of the business owner of Molly’s Cupcakes, Stephanie Jacobson, for a blade sign to overhang the public right-of-way in front of the subject property located at 30 W. Jefferson. The owner of 30 W. Jefferson is Vaceo Properties.

DISCUSSION:

The petitioner is proposing to install an 8-square foot blade sign that will extend approximately 3’-6” from the façade over the public right-of-way. There will be a 10’ clearance from the bottom of the sign to the sidewalk, which exceeds minimum height clearances necessary for the City’s downtown snow removal equipment. Staff has conducted a review of the sign and finds it meets all sign code requirements. Staff is in support of the proposal.

If Council is to approve the encroachment ordinance, staff will release the sign permit, allowing the blade sign to be installed, under the condition that the applicant return a signed right-of-way encroachment agreement to the City within 60 days of the sign permit issuance.
