BACKGROUND:

Unit 9333 is a 2004 International Medtec Ambulance that was purchased in June 2003 for $150,055.  The unit was an approved CY17 vehicle replacement that has already been replaced with a 2017 International Horton.  Surplus was originally approved in July of 2017 for sale through B & P Apparatus and was listed for $15,000.

DISCUSSION:

Through experience with the Sisters Cities delegation in Mexico, it is apparent that the value of donating a vehicle to an area well in need will far outweigh the monetary value.  The long term use of such a vehicle to a foreign country with very limited fire and emergency services will undoubtedly produce life safety benefits and effects that we will always know originated with the City of Naperville’s donation.

FISCAL IMPACT:

The sale of this vehicle is not specifically budgeted.  The impact of the recommended donation would be the loss of the potential sales revenue in the future.
