In 2018, Naperville’s Senior Task Force created the Senior of the Year award as part of the task force’s continued efforts to help address the unique needs of Naperville’s growing senior population. The Senior of the Year award is intended to formally recognize a Naperville resident age 65 or older who has given of his or her time and talent to serve the community without expectation of acknowledgement.
Six individuals were nominated in summer 2018 for the inaugural award. Resident Barbara Appelson was selected by the Senior Task Force as this year’s winner thanks to her efforts as a weekly volunteer at Riverwalk Adult Day Services for more than two years. Barbara Appelson was nominated for this honor by Laura Milligan, Executive Director of Riverwalk Adult Day Services.
Mayor Steve Chirico will present the award to Barbara Appelson.
