BACKGROUND:

The City’s South Central Interceptor Sewer is located along the eastern shoreline of the West Branch of the DuPage River.  Erosion of the shoreline is now threatening the integrity of a 7,000-linear foot segment of 36” to 42” sanitary sewer between 75th Street and Santa Maria Drive.  This interceptor sewer conveys approximately 7.5 million gallons a day of sanitary sewage from the northeastern area of the City to the Springbrook Water Reclamation Center for treatment. 

 

On June 6, 2017 City Council awarded an engineering services contract to Strand Associates to stabilize the river’s shoreline, ensure the long-term integrity of the sewer, as well as improve the City’s ability to safely operate and maintain the asset.  The design engineering of this project is 95% complete. 

 

DISCUSSION:

As the interceptor sewer is located along the shoreline of the West Branch of the DuPage River, access to the sewer will impact Naperville Park District property and will include the removal of trees.  To minimize the number of trees impacted or removed, the City is coordinating with the Naperville Park District to develop a tree preservation and restoration plan. 

 

A Land Use Permit must be approved to allow the City and its contractors to access the interceptor sewer where it crosses Naperville Park District Property in order to complete the project. 

 

FISCAL IMPACT:

There will be no fiscal impact to the City as a result of this land use permit with the Naperville Park District.
