BACKGROUND:
Stormwater management and the City's storm sewer system are key components in addressing flooding and protection of property. As the City's system continues to age and be modified analysis of problem areas is needed. For example, the City has seen an increase in the frequency of certain neighborhoods being inundated by short term, high-intensity duration rainfall events. While the top priority will remain keeping stormwater out of homes, where modifications to the system can be made to reduce the depth, duration and frequency of stormwater in streets and yards it will be analyzed.

Staff will also use the consultants for preparing and submitting complex documents to FEMA and the Army Corps of Engineers, such as flood map letters of revision. We will also look to the consultants for assistance and their experience in using new technologies to leverage the most out of the City's stormwater management system.

In April 2018, the Transportation, Engineering and Development (TED) Business Group issued RFQ 18-032, Engineering Services for Storm Water Management and Special Management Area Projects, to select a shortlist of qualified and experienced consulting firms to complete engineering services for storm water management and special management area projects. This shortlist is intended to supplement internal staff resources to develop innovative and cost-effective flood reduction solutions to reduce the impact of short-term, high-intensity duration rainfall events.
