BACKGROUND:

Unit 9308 is a retired 2006 Chevrolet Impala used as a Fire inspection vehicle that was approved for planned replacement in 2018. The unit was originally purchased in March 2007 for $22,931 and is in fair condition, but has a bad engine. Recent auction sales of Chevrolet Impalas have averaged $973.

Unit 9190 is retired 2010 Ford Crown Victoria used as a Police patrol squad vehicle that was approved for planned replacement in 2017. The unit was originally purchased in March 2010 for $22,075 and it is in fair condition. Recent auction sales of 2010 Ford Crown Victoria’s have averaged $1,014.

DISCUSSION:

Naper Settlement and its not-for-profit governing arm, the Naperville Heritage Society, wish to document and preserve the history of Naperville’s Police and Fire Departments through the acquisition of the two retired sedans from the City of Naperville.  Both sedans will become artifacts and be accessioned into the museum’s permanent collection, making them available for study and research purpose as well as future exhibition.

FISCAL IMPACT:

CIP #: N/A

Revenue earned from auction of surplus equipment go into the City’s Capital Project Fund to offset the future purchase of new vehicles and equipment. Donating these two units to Naper Settlement would reduce those revenues by approximately $1,987.00, depending on auction sale proceeds.
