BACKGROUND:

The Transportation Advisory Board (TAB) was established in 1975 to advise the City Council on matters pertaining to the transportation of people and materials.

DISCUSSION:

TAB currently consists of eleven members, of which four must have relevant professional expertise, four must represent as broadly as possible geographic and social elements of the community, and two must have a demonstrated interest in pedestrian and bicycle issues.  The Municipal Code does not require that these qualifications be met by distinct individuals and many current members meet multiple membership requirements.

TAB is one of the largest City boards and commissions, with the majority having nine or less members.  On May 31, 2018, the current term of four TAB members expired.  Only two of the four desired to be reappointed for additional terms, resulting in two vacancies on the board.  The vacancies present an opportunity to adjust the membership of TAB from 11 to 9 members to provide consistency with other City boards and commissions.  All membership requirements will continue to be met with nine members.
