BACKGROUND:

The Naperville Sprint Triathlon will be held on Sunday, August 5, 2018, starting and finishing at Centennial Beach. The event includes a 400-meter swim, 20K bike and a 5K run.

DISCUSSION:

The route for the annual Naperville Sprint Triathlon is depicted on the attached map, which depicts various temporary traffic control changes in the area from 5:00 a.m. to Noon.  An ordinance is required to establish road closures and No Parking/Tow Away Zones in these areas. Streets will be opened to vehicular traffic and the No Parking/Tow Away Zone signs will be removed as soon as the Naperville Police Department determines it appropriate based on public safety.

Premier Event Management (PEM) has partnered with the Naperville Park District and has been approved to use Centennial Beach for the swim portion of the race.  In addition, the organizer is working with the Naperville Convention and Visitors Bureau to secure accommodations for the event.

PEM will mail notification of the event to all residents and businesses along the race route two weeks prior and fulfill all insurance requirements. Staff will also post informational signs along the race route one week prior to the event.

FISCAL IMPACT:

Premier Event Management will be billed for all City services required for this event.
