BACKGROUND:
The G.L.O.W. Run for Reading 5K benefits the Jeanine Nicarico Memorial Fund for Literacy. The fund provides grants to schools and teachers in Districts 203 and 204. For the fifth year the race will begin and end just north of the downtown Naperville train station.
DISCUSSION:
The G.L.O.W. Run for Reading 5K and associated traffic control plans are depicted on the attached map. The race is scheduled for Saturday, June 2, beginning at 8:00 p.m. with an anticipated duration of approximately two hours. The event will require No Parking/Tow Zone designation beginning at 4:00 p.m. and temporary street closures beginning at approximately 6:30 p.m. with normal traffic established no later than 10:00 p.m. The streets of the race route are opened to vehicular traffic as soon as the Naperville Police Department determines it appropriate based on public safety.
Due to the success of this event and for the safety of the runners, the Special Events Team has recommended that runners start in waves to allow the roads to better accommodate the number of participants.
The event organizer will send notification to area residents and businesses on the race route approximately two weeks prior to the race. All other matters including insurance requirements will be satisfied prior to the event.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The G.L.O.W. Run for Reading 5K received $11,628 in SECA Grant funding. Any City services costs in excess of the grant fund will be billed to the event organizer.
