BOARD/COMMISSION REVIEW:
At their March 6, 2018 meeting, the Planning, Design and Construction Committee recommended forwarding this request to the Riverwalk Commission for their consideration with the additional information about the noise levels of the instruments

BACKGROUND:
The Riverwalk Maintenance Agreement between the Naperville Park District and the City requires that all additions to the Naperville Riverwalk be approved by the Riverwalk Commission, Naperville Park District and the City of Naperville.

The Rotary Club of Naperville has been offering to install a Harmony Park on the Riverwalk. The biggest issue has been the location. After meeting with the Park District the club settled on a location they believe all will support. Attached is a preliminary plan showing the location of the proposed Harmony Park. It will be located between Rotary Hill and the large quarry, just to the north of the existing pathway that runs parallel to Aurora Avenue.

DISCUSSION:
The Naperville Riverwalk Commission will need to vote on this addition to the Riverwalk before it can be forwarded to the Naperville Park District and the City of Naperville for their consideration. The design of the park includes a small section of pathway that leads to a twenty-five foot diameter paver circle that has the instruments around the perimeter. The design of the park includes four instruments: contrabass chimes, xylophone, mantra ray metallophone and swirl chimes.

The Planning, Design and Construction Committee discussed the layout and nearby locations where parents could sit and relax while their children played the instruments. The main concern the committee had with the park was the noise level of the contrabass chimes, based...
