title
Adopt the Resolution expanding the Riverwalk Boundary.
body
DEPARTMENT: Transportation, Engineering and Development
SUBMITTED BY: Janette Erickson, Riverwalk Administrator
BOARD/COMMISSION REVIEW:
N/A
BACKGROUND:
The Riverwalk is currently celebrating its 35th anniversary. In the history of the Riverwalk, a complete GIS boundary map has never been developed. The map will be incorporated into the Intergovernmental Agreement and Lease between the City of Naperville and Naperville Park District for the Riverwalk when it is updated in 2018. A map depicting the boundaries of the Riverwalk will also provide the Riverwalk Foundation with the tools needed to make sound decisions for future Riverwalk projects.
The Park Board of Commissioners will take action on the Riverwalk boundary map at their July 13, 2017 meeting.
DISCUSSION:
Private funding is being sought for the proposed Smart Park project located on the south side of the DuPage River and north of the Naperville Municipal Center. The Smart Park is an interesting new concept that would provide an outdoor meeting space for residents and visitors to work and meet. A municipality cannot accept donations. However, the Riverwalk Foundation can act as a conduit to donated funds for Riverwalk projects. Formal approval of this map would allow the Riverwalk Foundation to accept donations on behalf of the City of Naperville for the Smart Park.
FISCAL IMPACT:
No changes to the fiscal impact as stated in the Intergovernmental Agreement (14-009) and Lease between the City of Naperville and Park District for the Naperville Riverwalk.
