BACKGROUND:
The City has eight (8) Emergency Standby Wells that are maintained in ready status should the City's Lake Michigan drinking water supply from the DuPage Water Commission be interrupted. The combined output of these wells can supply the City with adequate water quantity for all domestic uses (no lawn watering), commercial, industrial and fire protection needs. The goal of the program is to rehabilitate all of the City's eight (8) wells. To date, the City has rehabilitated Deep Well Nos.16 and Deep Well 24.

Three prior change orders were approved by City Council or the City Manager in the amount of $23,420 and 195 days. These change orders were required to provide additional funding and time to allow our contractor, Layne Christensen (Layne), to complete rehabilitation of both wells due to scheduling conflicts and manufacturing problems.

DISCUSSION:
Since the last change order, Deep Well No. 24 was completed and a new motor was installed at Deep Well No. 31. However, upon start-up of the motor, an underground electrical power cable failed. The underground electrical cable was replaced by the Utility's electrical contractor. This change order requests adding 40 days to the contract to complete the final work at Deep Well No. 31. No additional funds are required.
