TRANSPORTATION ADVISORY BOARD AGENDA ITEM

ACTION REQUESTED:
title

Approve a recommendation to establish a 25 MPH speed limit for the Everly Trace subdivision (Item 2 of 2)

body

DEPARTMENT:                     Transportation, Engineering and Development

SUBMITTED BY:                     Christina Galanis, Civil Engineer

BACKGROUND:

When subdivisions approach build-out and the streets have been turned over to the City for maintenance, staff evaluates the area to establish basic right of way controls.

Everly Trace is a newer subdivision bordered by the Ashwood Creek Subdivision Unit 2 to the south, Ashwood Creek Subdivision Unit 3 to the west, Clifford Crone Middle School to the east, and 111th St to the north.

DISCUSSION:

Everly Trace is fill-in development that extends existing Neighborhood Connector Cedar Dr south of 111th St and Local Road Littleleaf Dr. The existing speed limits on Cedar Dr and Littleleaf Rd will be applied to the new segments of road.

The study warrants used to establish speed limits are located in Section B of the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) “Policy on Establishing and Posting Speed Limits” and Chapter 11, Article VI of the Illinois Vehicle Code. These warrants were used when establishing the speed limits on the existing segments of Cedar Dr and Littleleaf Rd.
