BACKGROUND:
In support of the City's priority of providing utility services that are reliable and safe, in September 2024, the Water Utilities issued Bid 24-211, 2025 Lead Water Service Replacement Program. The Lead Water Service Replacement Program is a City initiative to replace all known lead water service lines with copper water service lines starting in 2024. This work will continue as long as necessary to remove all lead water service lines from the system. Work includes the replacement of the entire length of the water service line, from the water main to inside the residence, at no cost to the property owner.
The work within this contract will be completed in 2025 with subsequent years being bid separately. With approximately 263 known lead water services remaining in the City, completion of the full program is anticipated to take several years. The 2025 project includes the full replacement of approximately 68 lead water services in an area generally located between Chicago Avenue and 4th Avenue and Ellsworth Street and Columbia Street.
