Update on contact and connections with Nitra, Cancun, and Patzcuaro

Nitra, Slovakia
Commissioners Bukowski and Chamberlain have been in contact with the local university and principal of a school that the Sister Cities Commission has done student exchanges with in the past. The Commission should discuss other potential points of contact in Nitra.
Locally they are looking into updating the display cases at the train station and municipal building, potential Slovakian beer of the month at a local establishment and are in contact with a Slovakian group that had a dance group in the Chicagoland area recently.
Cancun, Mexico
Commissioners Wang and Mani held two meetings with representatives of Cancun’s Sister City organization (Ms. Fiano Hurtado, Ms. Andrea Remes)
- Cancun Sister City representatives officially invited us to the 2025 Cancun World Fest. The invitation is on the way to Mayor Wehrli.
o Cost for the booth is $750 USD
o It will be a 3-day program
o North Central College might be interested in joining the city to represent Naperville
- Invited the Cancun Sister City representatives to attend a Naperville Sister Commission City meeting (remotely) for a quick introduction to the team.
- Discussed the possible collaboration with North Central Global initiative team and Cancun high schools for recruitment.
- Discussed exchange programs between Cancun University and North Central College
- Commissioners Mani and Saboo will send an invitation to Cancun’s Mayor inviting them to next year Naperville Hispanic Fest
Patzcuaro, Mexico
No contact has been made with Patzcuaro. In a recent meeting with State Senator Villa (unrelated to Sister Cities), she offered to share contact information for representatives of Patzcuaro. City staff has reached out to her office to request this information.
