body

DEPARTMENT: Department of Public Works

SUBMITTED BY: Richard Dublinski, Director

BACKGROUND:
Unit 714 was reviewed and approved by the Fleet Economic Committee and Fleet Services Project Manager for replacement in the 2020 budget. Vehicles are scored for replacement based on four criteria: age, usage, condition and repair costs. Recommending a vehicle for replacement requires a score 28.0 or greater. Unit 714 scored 36.46.

DISCUSSION:
Unit 714 is a 2007 crane truck used by the Water Department - Collection and Pumping Division in daily operations to service, maintain, and repair 20 remote sanitary lift stations.

The unit is used to pull large, heavy pumping equipment in deep wet wells for both wastewater lift stations and storm water pumping stations. The deep pump station wet wells are 35-feet to 55-feet deep. Many of the wastewater and storm water pumping stations are also in hard to reach areas, so the crane needs to be large enough to safely lift equipment at awkward and difficult angles. This is the only truck in the City's fleet that can perform this work.

The unit will be replaced with a 2021 Kenworth T370 Maintainer MTS-2-120 crane with a 75,000-foot-pound capacity crane body. The new unit is available on the Sourcewell Cooperative, an approved cooperative through National Auto Fleet Group, Contract #081716-NAF.

Using the City's specifications, National Auto Fleet Group quoted the Kenworth Crane Body. The City will trade in the retired unit to National Auto Fleet Group to offset the purchase cost of the new unit. A cost breakdown is provided in the table below:
