body
DEPARTMENT: Transportation, Engineering and Development
SUBMITTED BY: Gabrielle Mattingly
BOARD/COMMISSION REVIEW:
Not required.
BACKGROUND:
The applicant, J. McLaughlin has submitted an application for a blade sign to overhang the public right-of-way in front of the subject property located at 216 S. Main Street. The owner of 216 S. Main Street is Rubin Joseph Naper, LLC.
DISCUSSION:
The petitioner is proposing to install an 8” by 20” (approximately 1.1 square foot) blade sign that will extend approximately 30” from the façade over the public right-of-way. There will be an 8’ 2” clearance from the bottom of the sign to the sidewalk, which exceeds minimum height clearances necessary for the City’s downtown snow removal equipment. Staff has conducted a review of the sign and finds it meets all sign code requirements. Staff is in support of the proposal.
If Council is to approve the encroachment ordinance, staff will release the sign permit, allowing the blade sign to be installed, under the condition that the applicant return a signed right-of-way encroachment agreement to the City within 60 days of the sign permit issuance.
