BACKGROUND:
Both the Naperville Women's Half Marathon and Co-ed 10K/5K Run are sponsored by the same organizer 10xEM, LLC and were approved as part of the 2021 Special Events Calendar. The Naperville Woman's Half Marathon (originally planned for April 18) was canceled in compliance with CDC/State of Illinois guidelines. However, the Special Events Team is now recommending combining events on Sunday, June 13 due to recently relaxed COVID-19 protocols.
DISCUSSION:
The route and specific temporary traffic control information for the Naperville Woman's Half Marathon and Co-ed 10K/5K Run is depicted on the attached map and ordinance. The race route will be No Parking, Tow Zone from 5 a.m. to 11 a.m. and will be posted accordingly. Most of the race route streets will be closed beginning at approximately 5 a.m. until approximately 11 a.m. Jackson Avenue from its Western Terminus to Webster Street will be closed at 4:30 a.m. to allow set-up of the start line. Streets will be opened to vehicular traffic and the No Parking, Tow Zone signs removed as soon as the Naperville Police Department determines it appropriate based on public safety.
Staff will post informational signs along the race route no later than Monday, June 7 and 10XEM, LLC. will send notify residents and businesses along the race route no later than two weeks prior to the event.
The organizer has partnered with the Naperville Park District and secured the use of Centennial Beach for the start and finish.
