BACKGROUND:
The Municipal Center is home to nine departments, including the Mayor and City Council offices, and approximately 220 employees. While residents, vendors, and guests can access other City facilities, the Municipal Center remains the most visited site.
Built in 1991, the Municipal Center is experiencing age-related issues, application of outdated technology, and is in need of security improvements. To address these issues, in 2022, the Department of Public Works - Public Building Operation (DPW-PBO) contracted Kluber Architects and Engineers to perform an evaluation and develop a multi-year project plan to renovate and enhance building efficiency and security.
Phase I includes the installation of security improvements to the main lobby entrance.
DISCUSSION:
The Municipal Center lobby security project consists of constructing a dedicated security office space adjacent to the vestibule at the main entrance. The work shall include card access at the new interior doorways, as well as remote door unlocking from the guard station. There will be a continuous countertop with two individual workstations and two computer terminals in the office space. A transaction window and talk through will be installed in the existing glass to allow the guard to greet and direct visitors. The station room will be open to the balance of the lobby. Please see the rendering below.
Due to the multiple trades involved with the project, DPW-PBO recommends using the City's Job Order Contracting (JOC) contractor, Robe Inc.
Term of contract is from date of award through August 1, 2024.
