BACKGROUND:
The Northwest Water Works includes five booster pumps that were installed in 1997 and have reached the end of their service life. Rehabilitation of the Northwest Water Works began in 2020. During Phase I, two variable frequency drives (VFDs) were installed for the two 350-hp pumps. During Phase II, an additional three VFDs were installed for the two 150-hp pumps and the one 125-hp pump. In addition, the aging pipes and valves were replaced. The lighting was upgraded to LED fixtures, and the SCADA system was upgraded to accommodate the new VFDs.
In November 2025, the Water Utilities issued Bid 25-244, Northwest Water Works Improvements - Phase III, which includes replacement of the five booster pumps, replacement of aging pipes and valves, installation of a pump vacuum priming system, replacement of two chlorine booster pumps, installation of VFDs for the chlorine booster pumps, and associated SCADA improvements. The work also includes installation of associated electrical conduits and wiring.
