BACKGROUND:

On September 7, 2021, the City Council approved an agreement with the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) that covers the energy and maintenance for various traffic signals located along Illinois Route 59 and US 34/Ogden Avenue (File# 21-1098).  A copy of the agreement is attached.

DISCUSSION:

IDOT prepared the attached amendment to the traffic signal agreement with Naperville to address three issues:

The traffic signal at the intersection of Illinois Route 59 and Champion Drive was not complete at the time of the original agreement.  The amendment will add this location to the cost share table of the larger exhibit.  The City’s 25% share of the energy and maintenance cost will remain consistent the terms in IDOT’s construction agreement for this traffic signal.

The City maintains the west approach at the intersection of Illinois Route 59 and 111th Street.  IDOT determined that the City should be contributing its proportionate share (25%) of the maintenance cost of this traffic signal.

IDOT removed the Illinois Route 59 and McCoy Drive intersection from the agreement because the City does not have energy or maintenance responsibilities for this traffic signal.

Staff finds these modifications reasonable and supports approval of the amendment to the agreement.

FISCAL IMPACT:

The City’s share of the maintenance cost related to this amendment (25% of the maintenance cost for the traffic signal at Illinois Route 59 and 111th Street) will be approximate $1,600 annually.
