BOARD/COMMISSION REVIEW:

BACKGROUND:
The Riverwalk 2031 Master Plan includes a project to extend the Riverwalk from Hillside Road to Martin Avenue. This will provide pedestrian connectivity from Downtown to Edward Hospital along the West Branch of the DuPage River.
The preliminary cost estimate for construction of the south extension is approximately $3.9 million. This project is currently programmed in the City’s budget for construction in 2026. A $800,000 state grant and a $700,000 contribution from Edward Health will pay for a portion of this improvement.
DISCUSSION:
Gary R. Weber Associates has prepared a three-dimensional model of the proposed Riverwalk extension based upon the preliminary design. Several images from this model at various locations along the corridor are attached.
Engineering Resource Associates has started preparation of the construction documents for the project. Staff requests the Commission’s approval of the South Extension design before the plans are finalized.
