BACKGROUND:
The centrifuges and polymer feed systems at the Springbrook Water Reclamation Center (SWRC) were installed in 1995 as part of the Phase II expansion. One of the two centrifuge control panels and one of the polymer feed systems have reached the end of their usable service life and need to be replaced. Both components are critical to the dewatering and solids operation at SWRC. The purpose of the polymer feed system is to inject polymer to mix with the sludge to create larger solid flocs that make it easier for separation and dewatering. The centrifuge control panel is what controls the centrifuge and crucial for the power of the unit.
In May 2024, the Water Utilities issued Bid 23-117, SWRC Centrifuge Control Panel Replacement Phase I and Polymer Feed System Replacement, which includes the removal and installation of a new centrifuge control panel, removal and installation of a new polymer feed system and associated SCADA improvements. The work also includes the installation of associated electrical conduits, wires and concrete pads.
