BACKGROUND:

The G.L.O.W. Run for Reading 5K benefits the Jeanine Nicarico Memorial Fund for Literacy and provides grants to schools and teachers in District 203 and 204.

DISCUSSION:

The G.L.O.W. Run for Reading 5K route is depicted on the attached map, which shows temporary street closures and required No Parking Tow Zones. The race will be held on Saturday, June 3, 2017 beginning at 8 p.m. The event will require temporary street closures beginning at approximately 7 p.m. with normal traffic established no later than 10:00 p.m.  The streets of the race route are open to vehicular traffic as soon as the Naperville Police Department determines it appropriate based on public safety.  See the attached ordinance for specific street closures.

Due to the success of this event, and for the safety of the runners, the Special Events Team has recommended that the runners start in waves. This will allow the roads to better accommodate the number of runners in this event.

The event organizer will also coordinate delivery of notification to residents affected by the race at least two weeks prior to the event.  All other matters, including insurance requirements will be satisfied prior to the event.

FISCAL IMPACT:

The Jeanine Nicarico Memorial Fund for Literacy has received $13,345 in SECA funds to cover the cost of city services for this event.
