BACKGROUND:
Unit 088 was reviewed and approved by the Fleet Services Manager for replacement in the 2026 budget. Equipment is scored for replacement based on four criteria: age, usage, condition and repair costs. Recommending equipment for replacement requires a score of 28.0 or greater. Unit 088 scored 42.7.
DISCUSSION:
Unit 088 is a 1993 Sauber 1526 self-loading large reel wire trailer used by the Electric Utility to maintain and repair underground electric utility infrastructure throughout the City. The retired trailer will be sold through the City's auction service provider. The unit will be replaced with a 2026 Altec AD108E self-loading large reel wire trailer with a hydraulic turn function for pulling out old cable. The unit is specified to be compatible with the current maximum reel size used by the Electric Utility.
The new wire trailer is available on the Sourcewell Cooperative, an approved cooperative, through Global Rental Company, Inc., contract #042924-ALT. Using the City's specifications, Global Rental has quoted the trailer in the amount of $247,831. A breakdown is provided in the table below.

Equipment replacements for the Electric Utility are expensed to the Vehicles and Equipment account listed below. The Electric Utility included a total of $320,000 in the 2026 budget to replace Unit 088. The award requested is within the amount budgeted for this expense.
