Discussion and overview of a commissioner’s recent visit to Nitra, Slovakia

One of our top priorities is strengthening Sister City Relations with Nitra and on a recent visit to Nitra, Slovakia; Commissioner Dan Bukowski met with Nitra officials; presented them with a letter of support from our Mayor, and they discussed several key areas:
o An overview of the history of Nitra and current economic and civic environment.
o High school student exchanges with strong enthusiasm from Nitra officials. Both sides agreed that incoporating virtual/video exchanges would be a valuable step in moving the program forward.
o The need for entrepreneurial education, particularly for young adults. While Nitra is doing well economically, city leaders expressed interest in support and training to help their younger generation learn how to start and sustain their own businesses.
Commissioner Bukowski would like to explore and share potential resources available in Naperville that could assist Nitra with entrepreneurial training and education and discuss possible next steps for collaboration.
In another highlight of their trip, a local businessman took Commissioner Bukowski and his family on a tour of Nitra.
