BACKGROUND:
The City of Naperville is preparing for construction of the improvements to the 87th Street Bridge over Springbrook Creek. The project will involve complete replacement of the existing two-span PCC Deck Beam structure bridge with a single span superstructure. New retaining walls will be constructed along both bridge approaches, and a sidewalk will be added over the south side of the bridge to allow pedestrians to cross the bridge separated from traffic. The project will add a protected left turn lane on 87th Street at Springbrook Drive to increase safety and efficiency operations at the intersection. The work will utilize federal funds, which requires entering into a Joint Funding Agreement with the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) and appropriating funds for the local share of construction costs.
DISCUSSION:
In the joint funding agreement attached, the City share is $2,700,000, which is the local share of estimated construction costs.
Federal funds are being provided at up to an 80% match, not to exceed $3,005,200.
As construction costs are currently estimated at $5,700,000, the City must appropriate $2,700,000 to cover the City’s share of construction expenses.
FISCAL IMPACT:
CIP#: BR0149 - 87th Street Bridge Project
The City’s share of the construction cost will be expensed to the account listed below in the 2027 budget.
